The IAM is solid for Solidarity @ the YYC International Airport
Over the past four years, IAM Local 2734 has undergone significant growth and transformation.
When I stepped into leadership coming out of COVID, our Local was representing just two employers — Swissport and ATS — with approximately 150 members. Like much of the aviation industry at the time, we were rebuilding, uncertain, and facing constant instability across the ramp.
Today, IAM Local 2734 stands nearly 1,500 members strong.
Through focused organizing, persistence, and solidarity, we now proudly represent members across a broad range of employers and operations at YYC, including:
- Unifi Aviation Canada – Ramp and Supervisors
- Prime Air – Ramp and Above the Wing, (formerly GAT, Strategic Aviation, and Globe Ground)
- Samsic – Ramp, Above the Wing, and Wheelchair Services
- AGI – Ramp and Above the Wing (formerly ATS)
- Envoy – Ramp Operations
- Swissport – Ramp and Above the Wing
This growth did not happen by chance. It came from hard conversations, trust built on the floor, and a clear commitment to protecting workers from the instability that has plagued the aviation industry for decades.
We have seen firsthand what happens when ramp operations are fragmented and contracts are allowed to flip unchecked — most notably in Montreal Quebec, where workers paid the price through lost protections, lost seniority, and eroded standards. IAM Local 2734 is determined not to let that happen here.
That is why we made it manditory to organizing the entire ramp.
So no contract can be forced out.
So no group of workers are left behind.
So standards rise together — not race to the bottom.
IAM Local 2734 today is stronger, more united, and better positioned than ever to protect our members and the future of aviation work at YYC. And this is only the beginning.
In solidarity.
