James Carlson Appointed IAM Air Transport Territory Coordinator

IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr. has appointed James Carlson as Coordinator to the IAM Air Transport Territory. The appointment was effective March 1. Carlson has been Air Transport’s Assistant Airline Coordinator since 2016.  “James has been an invaluable member of Air Transport for over 30 years, and his promotion is a testament to the hard work and dedication he exhibits daily,” said IAM Air Transport Territory General Vice President Richie Johnsen. “His knowledge and extensive experience have proven immeasurable to Air Transport members and the entire membership. I am excited to continue working with James as we create new ways to organize and service our membership.”
In 2012, Carlson joined the Air Transport Territory as a Communication Representative. In March 2016, Carlson was promoted to Assistant Airline Coordinator, where he also serves as the Territory Organizing Leader.
Carlson initiated into Local Lodge 1322 in New York City in 1992. His record of union experience ranges from Shop Steward, Ramp Committeeman, Grievance Committee Chairman, Local Lodge President, Vice President, and Trustee. He also served as a District Lodge 141 Educator. 
Carlson holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a master’s degree in Industrial Labor Relations from Cornell University.
