Dear Members,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are writing to inform you of an upcoming adjustment to the minimum monthly union dues, effective January 1, 2026. This update is required under Article 14.11(b) of our Collective Agreement and follows the official 2026 per capita notices received from the IAM Grand Lodge, District Lodge 140, and the Alberta Federation of Labour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each year, affiliated bodies review their per capita rates based on economic indicators such as the Consumer Price Index (CPI). For 2026, the CPI has increased by 2.65%, resulting in modest changes to the per capita amounts remitted by Local 2734 on behalf of each member.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2026 Per Capita Breakdown<\/p>\n\n\n\n

International (GLPCT): $44.63<\/p>\n\n\n\n

District Lodge 140 (DLPCT): $21.76<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alberta Federation of Labour (AFL): $1.32<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AFL Political Action Fund: $0.25<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local 2734 Per Capita: $5.00<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Total Monthly Dues Effective January 1, 2026: $72.96<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

These dues fund the services and representation provided at the Local, District, and International levels\u2014including grievance handling, arbitration support, education programs, political advocacy, contract enforcement, industry-wide labour protections, and affiliation support through the AFL. They also support Local 2734\u2019s operational needs, including time-clearance chargebacks for representatives attending training, meetings, investigations, and other representational duties required under their Collectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Dues Are Calculated<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a reminder, LCOAL 2734 Article states that monthly dues shall be the greater of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sum of all International, District, AFL, and Local per capita fees; or<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An amount equal to 2.5 times the member\u2019s hourly wage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why This Matters<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These adjustments ensure that our Local can continue providing strong and effective representation, maintain affiliation with key labour bodies, and preserve the financial stability required to protect the rights and working conditions of all members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
